We’ve spent a lot of time reflecting on the types of games we want to design - and would ultimately love to play. This thinking has led to the definition of five principles that underpin our approach to game design, starting with our first game Grit & Glory. We’ve shared these design principles below so, if you’re looking for some insight into how Grit & Glory will feel to play, have a read!…
1. Victory feels earned:
Some variance is needed in any game but, more often than not, you should feel like you earned victory through the decisions you’ve made.
2. Thematically immersive:
It must feel like you’re immersed in the universe the game is attempting to build, not just through the art but, most importantly, through the game mechanics.
3. Every game is a story:
The game must be conducive to big moments and talking points.
4. Maximise cognition:
The game’s decision-making is full of friction with good pace and minimal downtime so your brain always feels engaged.
5. Accessibly deep:
The core mechanics should be easy to learn but the cross-mechanic interactions should provide a ton of depth for gamers to learn and discover.
